well just picked up the motor today. its out of a 1989 ford f150 5.0 with 80,000 miles on it. motor is pretty clean, has all accessories on it, v-belt setup. my questions. what do i need to do to this motor to prep for fitment. will be removing valve covers to check valve clearences, remove oil pan and inspect, replacing cam with a rough idle good all around performance cam, shorty headers, and a few other goodies.will the trucks upper intake design fit my truck? what all do i need to make this work. i had a friend who talked me into keeping it fuel injection cause hes going to wire it up. which aod trans will i need to use. thanks for any info.

Look for a 89-92 aod out of a v8 truck or a crown vic that had the police package. That upper intake want clear the air box , mustang or explorer. Need a rear sump oil pan and pick up. Make sure the cam firing order matchs yours.

this engine has a rear sump. i thought i needed a dual sump? why does it need the police package?

I'm doing a similar swap into a gen1, and unless you want to completly chop the L/H side of the heater case and cut a hole in the hood for the throttle the f150 intake won't work. As for the pan the rear sump may clear but the main body will rest on the cross member not alowing the engine to set low enough in the chasis. Basicly I can only use the f150 long block. Ended up with a crown vic intake, oil pan and AOD on the 150 motor.:icon_hornsup:

The 89-92 truck and police aod's have revised fluid passages, more clutches. They are stronger. Oil pan is a duel sump (fox body oil pan)

will any aod hook up to it out of vans, trucks, broncos, mustangs, vics and lincolns? i cant find an aod from a truck or vic 89-92

will a 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis transmission work.

ok good, cause we've owned a few ford broncos and lincoln towncars w/ 5.0's and the aod's have never given us an issue. my gramps is driving a 1989 lincoln towncar with 210,000 miles on it. no smoke, never rebuilt motor or trans. still runs perfect. my dads last bronco had a 5.0 in it and an aod, hes excceeded the towing capacity by a few thousand pounds and never had an issue.
