Hey - I'm not a Ranger guy as of yet, but I was wondering if someone could help me out with this. I usually tow a trailer 6 days a week with my 2004 F-250 V10. Its a 3500# enclosed 6x12. I was looking at a 1996 Ranger Std cab, long bed, 4.0 V6 5spd for sale locally. Nowadays, my V10 is a bear on gas and Id like to keep it off the road as much as possible. I also need a back up truck for when the big one goes in the shop. Would this ranger be able to tow a 3500# trailer?

It will but the mileage won't be much better than the V10 pulling a 3500 lb trailer. It'll be so slow on take offs, that it will have a hell of a time getting out of it's own way. And the strain will shorten it's life span. If you want better mileage with the V10, take your foot out of the throttle body on accelleration & plan your stops. Eliminate quick starts and stops and that'll improve tbe fuel consumption better than trying to pull that weight with a smaller truck. Matter of fact, once you try a couple of quick stops with the Ranger and that trailer, you'll by neccessity, HAVE to plan your stops and starts.
