1996 Ranger SAS 4-link

JohnnyU... your "huh" isn't even worth an explanation. If you don't understand it, go look at some heavy equipment.

Why on earth would you fawk with a goofy-ass set-up like that when you could run a full-hydro setup for arguably less money and time/hassle? Another option is a more simple suspension with a conventional steering system.

I've seen heavy equipment, I work in design on several different equipment lines actually. I have yet to see "heavy equipment" with a steering setup like that. Got any examples? Most machines use hydraulic steering.

wow...i wouldnt talk like this to a mod but thats just me....can you post a pic of this screwy steering you speak of?? i have dealt with heavy machinery most of my life and i have seen mostly hydraulic steering...

im not sure on the c-wedges being cast or welded on to it, might take some torching....

why not use a dana 44 out of an early bronco? short width, stouter axle and it will have the 4.5 on 5 pattern you need.....

Early broncos dont have that pattern, they are 5x5.5 which is not the same as the ranger pattern.

The wedges arent cast on the Early Bronco Housing. They are welded on and can be cut off. But the EB D44 has smaller shafts and joints and IIRC only 76-77 are disk breaks the rest are drums.

He's suggesting using a push pull system like any heavy truck, or chev solid axle trucks. Except he'll run an idler arm at the link pivot point, then run forward with another link to a custom steering arm on the knuckle. Anything can be built, but there's a reason you haven't seen a setup like this before Fordguy64, it's not worth F*ckin with. Just do a high steer crossover setup and be done with it.

Whalstrom, your correct in the description... and for the record, I have seen it in use and been in a truck with it. It does work. No bump steer. Now, with all that being said, it was a "suggestion"... I didn't say he's gotta do it while holding a gun to his head. He's a big boy and can make up his own mind. All I was doing was making a suggestion to his question.
Also... Predator, I hold nothing back. I say it like it is. If that "moderator" doesn't like it, then too bad. I said nothing derogatory towards him or this site and said nothing in any profane way. Short story, I followed the rules outlined by Jim Oaks himself.

ok so you may have followed all the rules as outlined, but i tend to be a little bit more polite, that way when i post a question i dont get ignored. but whatever, its a dead topic.

i guess i thought early broncos had the small pattern....oh well...

Predator, I know when something is worth my time messing with. After reading several of his posts and hearing many of his ideas, he's not worth arguing with. No one respects the staff around here, we're used to it.

wow that excursian was gay......the steering matched the truck too!! as in-NONFUNCTIONAL

except on and off the trailer.....
