My 2.3l 96 ranger won't start. Crank no start. I've narrowed it down to a fuel delivery issue. Runs off of starter fluid just fine. I pulled the bed off, tested the fuel pump connector don't get any power to the pump. So I moved up to the inertia switch. Unplugged the switch and tested the connector, all the wires get 12v EXCEPT the pink/black wire (fuel pump power I believe). I'm lost on what my next step should be. Relay clicks when key is turned. Tried swapping it with other relay, nothing. CEL is on but I haven't checked the code yet. Any help or tips are appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Just for clarification because I'm not confident with using a multimeter, I put the red probe to the black/pink wire, black probe to ground, and turned the key. No voltage. If this is the improper procedure please roast me and then explain correct procedure.

Sounds like the right procedure.

I believe power goes from relay, to intertia switch, to pump.

Try probing the wire coming out of the relay see if you have 12v. If you do, but no power to the inertia switch, you got a bad wire.

Thanks man, doing this helped me figure out it was a bad ground. Once fixed, power was getting to the pump and now runs. You rock!

Wait, Dustin helped fix a fuel injected engine? Is this something to mark in some sort of calendar? :)

Just rizzing ya bud!

Honestly glad you figured it out! Rusty had some very valid points or I would have added more...

I'm having a great night thanks to Dustin. Bought this 96 ranger for $350 and got it running for about $150 and a couple new gray hairs. Tank was shockingly clean. Was half expecting sludge and rust since it's been sitting for 7 years.

Nice, that's about how I got my '97 for $450 needing $150 in suspension, body and interior stuff, 4 years and like 70k later aside from tires and regular maintenance and other tweaks it's been a great daily driver... for 4 years with like $2000 total investment aside from fuel I call it a win...
