Well i think its a 1996, i know its a ford and i know its a ranger. Ran the vin i was told it was a 1993, title says 1996. Anyway, i am like everone, need more power. I would like to tubrocharge the engine. Its got the 8 spark plugs and fuel injection. Was think about buying a 1988 thunderbird 2.3 L turbocharged lima i4 engine, rebuild it. But then comes changing the wiring harness, probably fuse panel, computer etc, then guess it all needs tuned. Any help on how to do all this. Can i add a turbocharger unit to my 2.3 L. Yea, i know i need to rebuild the engine, lower the compression. Or can i rebuild this engine and get some good power out of the engine, its going to need to be rebuilt. Thanks, Eric Dayton, Ohio.

Generally the stock engine can handle 5psi boost, it would be best to find some injectors that are just a little bigger and the stock setup should be able to handle that, being a '96 it's not as easy to set up since you can't use the stock turbo engine's computer without rewiring your truck. If you put boost to the stock internals, I'd suggest running premium only to keep from detonating as the stock cast pistons aren't very forgiving, since it's OBD 2 it's easier to find someone to reprogram it than the older systems.

I know noone ever wants to do this, but take your engine, have it bored out (as little as needed to clean the cyl walls) and rebuild it with forged turbo pistons. Then it will handle what ever you throw at it (you will grenade any stock 2.3 trans way before you break anything inside the motor).

Once you do that, all you need is a turbo kit (off a turbo coupe for example turbo, exhaust manifold, and oil/coolant lines) since its a MAF sensor truck, all you need to do is get a bigger maf sensor off a v8 ford, some bigger injectors, and a quarter horse tuner(goes inside the stock computer). Then take it to someone who can dyno tune it for you.

Thank you, everyone. I appreciate it. The engine needs to be rebuild, so i think i will probably get one out of the junk yard. I can get one for $300.00 to $400.00, after that how much do you think it will cost all together?
