Trying to find which fuel tanks and pumps (2port vs 3 port) that fit. Tanks are rusted and leaking with over half a tank. Seams do indicate leakage. Truck runs and drives now, would like to not have to pull tanks to find out.
Only foud 1 Vin decode site that got close to the truck, USDOT. Ford dealers tell me it is an incorrect VIN, Title, Dashboard and door show the same VIN. Asking if anyone has direct experience with this truck and fuel tanks, or any general info that I can use to know which pump/tank to order. Tricks to id type etc. This applies to the front/side mounted tank. seems the rear is mostly standard. Thanks for any Help out there.

Having a 1989 F-150 4x4 5.8L Supercab, I think the difference is 2 port = diesel, 3 port = EFI . I am dropping my tanks this week to empty the old gas and get it started, and probably change the nylon lines. If it does not followthis setup, I will let you know.

1 port = draw
2 port return (both EFI and diesel)
3 port = charcoal canister

LMC sells the fuel tanks and everything for them the last time I checked. BUT, on the side tank you should be able to fit just about anything generic.

You will find removing the bed and along the way maybe doing a 3" body lift (cab and bed) is the only reasonable way to access the tanks. If the clips are rusted, you will probably end up breaking them, and replacing them along with the straps. The reason I say "reasonable" is the lines are so old and brittle, if you attempt to lower the tank without disconnecting them, and try to do it with the tank lowered, you might crack them.

Thanks for your response 4x4prepper! I have dug around and found that info but without confirmation. I am replacing the rear tank first so I can remove old side tank then order correct unit with new straps. Rear is coming with pump and straps, again thanks for your input!

PM me the full VIN and I’ll run a Ford OASIS report for you.

Hi,

Here is a picture:

3 hoses - 1 harness
(2) hoses to pickup - pump - sender
(1) hose to vent on top of tank - comes from right side of truck.

Note on hose is broken from previous owner, which is why I bought the truck cheap.

From going through catalogs you could have three lines, for a 1996 5.8L. Though the tanks appear to be the same part number.
