Hello all,

I was wondering how difficult it would be to put the engine from my 1996 ranger into my 1989 ranger. I'd use the 86 intake manifold and tranny so I'd basically be swapping the block and head out. I have some questions;

1. Has this ever been done?
2. Are the bolt patterns the same for the manifolds and tranny?
3. Are the motor mounts in the exact same locations
4. What other issues am I looking at?
5. Any thing else? Advise?

Thank you

Andrew

95+ 2.3/2.5L blocks do not have the hole for the dist, instead having the oil pump located where the aux shaft used to be.

It will not work, you would have to do a complete engine, and harness swap. As stated above, the distributor wont work. The heads (intake port and combustion chamber) are different also. the swap would be good for your '86, but it will have t be complete
