1995 explorer 4.0 to 1990 ranger 4.0

I bought a 90 ranger xlt 4x4 with a 2.9 and m code 5 speed. I changed it to a 4.0 from a 91 2wd ranger. Changed computer and under hood harness with no problems and have about 3 or 4 thousand miles on it with no problems. Well the 4.0 now has developed a bad peck so I'm gonna rebuild it. I just bought a 95 explorer with a basically new 4.0. My question is will the explorer engine be a direct swap with no wiring changes and will it bolt to my tranny? Thanks in advance

More or less. Just use all the 91/92 wiring. The newer engine might have a few things that won't get plugged in because they didn't exist in 92, but it will work. Might have to swap the upper intake.

Thanks. The explorer also has an 8.8 LS 3.73 rear end which is what the current 7.5 is so I'm gonna swap them to.

Yeah, the Explorer rear end swap is def worth it.

How about the front end and transfer case from the explorer? Easy swap or a pain? Explorer is an automatic

Totally different front suspension arrangement on the explorer from your truck, the torsion bars and other IFS parts wouldn't be worth the effort, same for the transfer case unless it was one of the rare ones that had a 1354 Manual shift.

Thanks. I kinda figured that would be the case. I would like to upgrade the front end but not sure what year model I need to look for to get it.

91-94 Explorer or 91-97 Ranger.

95-97 Rangers had a better brake setup in the front, but because it was only 3 years those axles are somewhat rare.
