Hey all,

I'm trying to replace an internal wiring harness with temp sensor on my 1995 4R44E automatic transmission and have a few questions.

I have the pan off and filter removed. Can I remove the harness without removing the valve body? I'm going to have to remove several shift solenoids to get to the 16 prong plug, but if I can avoid removing more I will. I'm still in the process of removing the plug on the outside of the trans that connects to the wiring harness without breaking it, but just wanted to see if anyone has done this and has any advise to make it go smoother.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Neil

P.S. I'm doing this because I pulled two codes indicating the temp sensor was bad (P0712 and P1783) and didn't realize it was built in to the wiring harness until I had dropped the pan.

Well, finished replacing the harness. There isn't much info out there on replacing it, so I'm not surprised no one had an answer.

Ended up pulling three of the solenoids on the driver's side of the valve body, just requires removing three bolts and a bracket. The 16 prong plug then pulls straight down after depressing a latch on the back of it (outside of the trans). Found the old harness has several sections of wire insulation missing. Haven't put the pan back on yet so we'll see if the new harness fixes it.

Replaced the harness, trans filter and trans fluid. Transmission shifted great for 4 days.... now back to the same problem. "O/D Off" light flashing and transmission shifting hard from 1st to 2nd and during downshifts between 2nd and 1st. Haven't checked the codes yet, but I can only assume its the same thing. Going to pull the codes and go from there, but I'm guessing its an issue with the body wiring harness and not the trans harness. I'll update this when I learn more.

there is an issue with the separator plate or gasket leaking on these trannys.
Do some research about the plate & new style gasket, EPC valve.
I did that job in my 2000 about 5 years ago, don't recall the exact details.
