Hey All! I have purchased a used Ranger that has 4.0L engine. 146k miles. The fellow told me he put new heads on her. Question is, engine has an extreme amount of "blow back" from the crankcase. Wondered if maybe vacuum hoses were incorrect or? Figured I would start with the vacuum hosed.I know I have not give much info here but hopefully enough to get started. Thanks in advance!

Hello, if you mean by "blowback" the vacuum lines are blowing off, check for wet (ATF) vacuum lines to the transmission modulator.

Good luck

sounds like he means when you remove the oil filler cap, theres lots of air movement.

the only way vacuum lines could cause this is if the PVC were not properly connected.

If its extreme crankcase blow back or bye..usually there is a problem like weak piston rings..meaning they not sealing good...especially if the previous owner got her really hot and cracked the heads and it kinda took the tension out of the rings(or collapsed them) and by putting on new heads, valves and such sealing tighter causes the compression to blow by the rings.

BUT i would check your breather and PVC valve first.

That`s what I mean Bruce. I replaced the air filter and pvc valve. New pvc valve has a large outlet and a small outlet. Did not use the small one. Plugged it. Would I be able to tell about the rings with a compression tester? Thanks guys for the reply!

Compression test would tell you if there is a bad jug.

Good luck
