1994 Ranger Sea Splash Concept Truck “FOUND”

Last two posts do not show a picture on my end. Wish I could see what they are talking about with the 83's......

85 Ranger posted a YouTube link to a commercial for the '83 Ranger. They launch that bad boy off a cliff and a parachute pops out. the ranger lands pretty hard, then they drive off. (prbly in a replacement ranger)

It's a little confusing that you're referring to yourself in the third person. Why didn't you just say that it was you that found it and it was on your page?

Nice detective work on the "callout":icon_thumby:

So you have the SeaSplash?

Yes, please document your find. Before and after shots of the resto....
Do a little write-up of how you found it and the back story of the truck.

^^^^^ agreed. I smell a good story here.

This message composed solely of recycled electrons. Go green!

I would like to see a pic of it after you rinse the inch of dust off it. I would also like to see the motor and specs since you say the features are wrong. so spray it with the garden hose, take some pics of the outside, motor and inside so we can see the difference. Thanks

I think he means there is an article somewhere about this truck that has an inaccurate list of options.

This is exciting. :yahoo:

He is correct some of the articles are contradictory of not just each other, but what the truck actually was built with. My priority was to take possession of the truck and get it back 2000 miles to its new home. Therefore washing it would only be pointless until I got it home where I can start documenting and inventorying what’s right and wrong with the truck. Trust me I’m as anxious as anyone to put this out for public viewing, but it will be done right and not a hack job. I will update the post as I go.

I would still wash it before taking it 2000 miles unless you have a covered trailer. Dust can scratch the hell out of paint.

SO many questions....

How did you end up with it?

Where exactly was it?

Does it have a title, or even a VIN number. I was under the impression that prototypes didn't have VIN numbers. If it doesn't, then that would likely explain why it only has 139 miles on it. If it does, then I'm guessing Ford let some outside companies customize some production Ford Rangers for promotional vehicles. I remember being at the Ohio State Fair back in the 90's and seeing the one that had a basketball hoop in the bed.

This Splash Concept Ranger would be a cool vehicle to have show up at a TRS 20th Anniversary Gathering in 2019.

You should go back, edit your original post, and add photos and comments.

Since the original facebook post was in July, I'm guessing you've had time to clean it up. Can we see more photos and details?

I sent an email to Chad Callander (Ford Ranger Marketing Manager at Ford Motor Company) with a link to the facebook post to share with the Ford Ranger development team. In the event they were interested to know that the truck has surfaced. Ford should have photos of this truck in it's archives. If you contacted them, they would probably pull them up. If you can't find someone to contact, I may be able to.

It would be great if you could post everything here. Topics are easier to follow on the forum than on facebook.

Is the truck OBDI or II? If it is OBDI there is no hope of getting a VIN from the computer. If OBDII then there is a much better chance.

It might not have had a real vin either. Some stuff like that just had a serial for them to keep track of since it was never intended to be sold.

Didn't they put the VIN on the frame somewhere too?

My guess is that it was never came from Ford with a VIN since it was a concept. That's also why it never had any miles out on it.

When are we going to see this truck clean???
