When driving on the high way i have no top end i can hardly hit 70 and its at around 3000-3500 rpm. What gearing would be good to hit 70 around 2500 if that is even possible.
The trucks a 1994 with the 2.3 5spd tire size is 205/75/r14.
Thanks,
Mike

What is currently on there? There should be a tag on the differential casing that will tell you.

Or find your tire diameter and use this.

If you are wanting to drive 70-75 MPH. I would go with a 2.73:1 gear.

it will be gutless, the lima engines make there power in the higher rpm range. i drive up to 85mph in 4th gear, 5 gear to me is usless. these engines wont mind 3500rpms so dont be afraid.

A 2.73:1 in a 4-cylinder truck? I wouldn't want that in a 6-cylinder car. Heck, as I have said before, if I ever bought a 4-cyl Ranger I'd trailer it home and put 5:13 gears in it before I even drove it.

My b2 has 3:40s in it it was freakig horrible

3.45s, and imagine loading that thing down with a 12 foot trailer and a full bed.

Mine has 4.10 or 4:10 gears and it's heavy and it does fine. He's running lighter, lower drag, smaller tires, smaller rims. He's running fast, ya I understand it's not going to have balls. But those are what I would run if I had the truck, just my opinion. 2.73 gears have been ran in rangers before and worked.

I have (if I remember right) 3.08's in my 4 cyl. 5 speed and I'm runnign 265/75/17's on the rear (32's) and the freaking thing is a DOG. I dont have the luxury of using 5th gear unless my speedo says I'm going 90 mph.

Can that thing even make it out the end of your road? I have trouble making that from a dead stop sometimes.

:thefinger: Like Cody said, this thing loves high RMPs. So I revv the shit out of it and work the clutch like a pro. Lol

My '93 2.3L 5 speed manual came with 3.73 gears and was very unresponsive at highway speeds, also seemed like I really had to wind it out in fourth so it wouldn't fall on its face when shifted to fifth. I changed to 4.10 gears and was worried it wouldn't be enough to make much difference but I also didn't want to hurt fuel economy too much. Was I in for a big surprise, it made a huge difference in driveability, like a completely new vehicle. Greatly improved response and decent response at highway speeds (hey, it's still a 2.3), and best of all fuel economy improved slightly. I also changed the speedo gear to keep the speedometer accurate.

Yeah, so do I. My problem isn't stalling, it's traction.
