1994 Ford Ranger 4.0 Egr problems!

I recently purchased a 94 ranger ext cab 4x4 in great shape but ran rough for $1000. Bad thing is I didn't realize that the motor was from a 1990 without an egr until I dug in. The computer and wiring is for a 4.0 with an egr, so can I just leave the egr sensor plug laying there plugged into nothing? Or what? Help please!!
