Hey guys been trying to find information on rebuilding the head completely. My valve guides have failed and one of my valves has left the chat. Can anyone steer me in the direction of how to overhaul this head along with tolerances and what not? I have a Chilton's manual and I have another one but the information is so vague or maybe I just don't understand! I appreciate the help in advance and am hoping I can get my truck on the road without any massive bills from the machine shop. Thank you!

Might be worth your while to grab a head out of a junkyard. You might also inspect the cylinder with the chunky valve...

Whatever route you go or whatever head you use, get it magnifluxed and check both head and block for warpage or imperfection.

It’s my understanding that valve guides need to be pressed in most heads by a machine shop. Shouldn’t be overly expensive, I was quoted around 600 to have a set of 460 heads done. Since you’re kinda half of that, I’d expect it to cost a little less. Definitely give the cylinder with the bad valve a close inspection, heavy scoring in the cylinder spells trouble

I checked it out and surprisingly all of the valve that blew up was sitting on top of the piston no gouges or scratches. I talked to a guy at a machine shop said he will look at it and can redo it for 250-300 or replace it with a reman for that.

Best way is to get it done at the machine shop. Just my 2 cents
