I have a broken wheel lug on one of my front wheels and I went to replace it today (and re-pack while I'm there), but I can't see an obvious way to remove something that looks like a gear around the interior of the rotor. I'm assuming this is for heat dissipation? I'd like to re-use these hubs. How do I remove this to access the lug stud?

That is the tone ring for the ABS brakes. It's probably press fit on and not easy to take off.

It might be easier to just replace the rotors.

Well, if you have to get new rotors, might as well try to remove the studs on this one. I would try to remove 2, maybe 3 studs so they push on the ring to remove it at the same time. If you **** it up then get a new one...

Alright, the other rotor made the decision for me. There were some pretty deep gooves on the back of the passenger rotor, will simply replace them. I'll feel better about that in the long run anyway.

For s and g, why don't you pound out the studs and see if the ring comes with them. That way someone else can use the info to make a decision if they run into the same scenario.
