okay ill try and help im planning on building a 3.3 turbo in the future, ive studied the layout just havent done it or bought anything yet. i plan on putting in a 4.0 dual core radiator and change the shroud so youll have to bear with me. when you open the hood on the side w/ your airbox between the fender and engine down low is where i was planning on mounting the turbo, not sure what size prob a t3/t4 hybrid turbine. was going to try and use jba headers for higher flow but ditched that idea, going to flip the driver side manifold and keep the pass side strait, route the pipes to the turbo for a cleaner install and run the exhaust at an elbow down and out the back. id have the filter towards the ground, then pipe upwards to the intercooler mounted in front of the radiator. then on the other side just route the pipe up and between where the fan and shroud are going to the throttle body, w/ a pro m 3 inch maf in the tube that goes parallel to the radiator centered between the 90 degree elbows. this is how i plan to run it, i may decide to simply pull my fans and such out of the dash and bypass the heater core and run my hot air line under the radiator to the intercooler w/ filter in the fenderwell and have the cold air line from the intercooler go thru the dash and into the reversed intake if i decide to custom build my larger intake. just some thoughts in my mind fig i would help you since nobody else will.

Mainly Lookin for a Pic of where the InterCooler is Mounted...

That Did Hepl Some Tho... Thanx.

see if you can find somebodys on here w/ a 4.0 the mounting should be similar, fig i would thro that out there.

looking at the setup of the frame and cores support, a vertical behind the bumper mount like most imports doesn't seem to make much sense, as the core support can be said to be "solid" with the radiator filling and headlights filling the only voids in the core support. I think maybe hanging a wide and narrow intercooler slung flat or slightly tilted upwards, adjacent to the frame rails, parallel between the bottom of the bumper, and that dipping crossmember in front of the motor would be the way to go. This way you could run your piping up either side outside of the frame rails where IIRC theres a good sized void on either side. and up to intake/turbo in the engine compartment. Never mounted/routed an intercooler, or even had anything turbo, so I personally don't know this is THE way to do it on a gen3. I hope you can understand my suggestion. I don't know if you wheel this thing, if you do this setup I suggested would run the risk of getting trashed. If you NEED to fit the cooler and NEED it protected, I think you should look into a smaller underhood intercooler. Hope this can help you, just my $.02

Pick yourself up some exhaust manifold gaskets, run over to a metal shop with a CNC machine and have them cut you out some flanges. Build yourself a custom set of shorty "turbo" headers.

this is from the build of my 2.3 turbo 1994 ranger

had to cut some out of the core support and mount it in front of radiator (opposite side of engine and fan) we welded in new beams underneath the intercooler. hope it helps.

thats what i was talking about above, i thought about shorty headers but im going to stick to manifolds for now, unless i go nutz and decide to design my own, which has crossed my mind a few times...just $$$ is the issue. i realize that the placement of my turbo on my 93 would be dif than his but its all in theory til i get the compressor etc and start installing measuring cutting etc.

flipping the driver side and leaving the pass side in place, then running equal length pipes to the turbo that points airflow upwards to the intercooler, not sure if that makes any sense but i seen it discussed elsewhere and fig it was worth a shot.

why not flip both manifolds and run more exhaust into turbo for more efficient boost?
