1993 Splash build

Bumper heights are a concern.

GVW under 5k is 24" front bumper 26 rear. Im at 27 in the front and 26 rear. Im making a valance for the front.

I have my inspection license so I build my truck safe and then inspect it.

Same height laws we have. Im only over by like 5" up front and 4" in the back.lol

Only thing I have ever been hassled about is my window tint. Never height, tires beyond fenders, noise, or lights facing forward over 4ft.

If the cop thinks it looks cool, you're in the clear ;-)

And if you think about it, the tires and bumpers are never gonna hurt the cop... Some wack job in the cab behind tinted windows holding a gun is a much bigger concern to them!

Been outa town on vacation dude. So...no lol.

I had my Dana 44 delivered today. Included radius arms, frame mounts, dual front shocks, warn premium lockouts, steering, track bar, steering box (if anyone needs a 78/79 box, PM me), drop pitman arm, etc. He also threw in a brand new in the box set of Motive 4.56s for an extra $100.

Damn! Where did you find this gem?

One of my buddies was parting out his truck lol

Update on the truck. It tracks great going down the road but the coils are far too soft for highway driving. I was wondering if I got a set of nitrogen charged shocks that maybe they would stiffen the suspension up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the shock I was looking at:

I'm not sure a shock designed for a Jeep would be best. They also have very soft springs and the shock will more than likely be designed to take advantage of a soft spring.

I think the dual shocks may help you. The will add more resistance to the compression. Or an adjustable shock like the Rancho 9000. The difference in compression from lowest to Hughes is ridiculous. You'd be able to stiffen them up on the road and loosen them for 4 wheeling.

As an idea, maybe add air bags to assist the coils. Try an come up with a quick disconnect from the axle an you'll be set for off road.

You did awesome on this build, I have a feeling you'll find an intelligent and creative answer.

I looked into those shocks. Thanks for the heads up.

I found the proper shock I needed. 14" travel shocks Rancho 9000XL shock.

Part# RS999034 cheapest is $99 on Amazon

Part #RS19034 (remote reservoir) cheapest is 180 on Amazon.

I think I'll go w/ the 999034's and see where that takes me.

^ Well, I ordered them. We will see once they're on the vehicle. $200 is insane to pay for a PAIR of shocks... :annoyed:

Try autoplicity.com. I got my F250 ones there for $85 a piece. I do have to return one though, it wasn't pressurized properly. Check the application of the shock you are getting as well. It seems the ones for HD trucks have a larger body diameter (2.75") to handle extra weight. They probably are stiffer than you need as well.

Another thing I read about them was that the valving will tend to seize (maybe only older models). I plan to coat mine in WD40 before winter to help avoid corrosion. If you check my build thread, I have a comparison shot of the Ranchos for F250, Duff's for Ranger, and a beer can.

Yea, I got the 2.75" shocks. I need STIFF shocks to take the impacts the coils dont. I also read the old style 9000's had that problem but the new versions have great reviews. Autoplicity is cheaper BUT I got free shipping. Turns out it's the same price either way.

On my old 90 Bronco2 I copied 4x4junkies TTB beam setup and used Skyjacker Softride jeep xj 6" coils that were 240lb. I had a DUff dual shock hoop setup with Duff 70/30 shocks. They did a great job of controlling the truck on the street. I bent the two front shocks on a trip and had to take them off and couldnt believe the difference in handling with just two out of the four fronts on.

If this doesnt help, then yes, I will DEFINITELY be swapping to a dual shock setup on the front. I appreciate all the responses to this. Y'all are awsome!

Ordering steel today for my new crossmember. Should have it done this weekend.
