1993 Ranger 3.0

My Ranger starts and seems to run good, it's just that while driving and it is usually after several hundred miles the check engine light will come on and off, then sometimes it will start running rough while the light is on but sometimes rought just shortly after the light goes off. I can press the gas pedal down and it will quit running rough and accelerate very well but when it getts back to highway speeds with the cruise set it may or may not run rough. Any ideas.

pull the codes after cel light comes on. its a shot in the dark just posting your symptoms
i could be a iac sensor or maf or ant thing. problem is also autozone and places like it can pull codes for free if your car is 1996 or newer. you may have to buy a reader like me.

Buying your own obd reader is definitely worth the money. They cost like thirty bucks and you save yourself the headache of wondering whats wrong each time something happens. Im buying one as soon as i finish a through tune up.

You don't need an OBD reader for a 93.

Could be MAF, could be an O2 going out. When my O2 went out it was fine for short drives but long hauls would set the engine light and run rough at times.

I agree on the O2 sensor, that's the symptoms I got when they were going on my 93. Beyond 100K miles you're on borrowed time with those things.

Regarding pulling codes, the Autozone here had the appropriate scanner to pull the code on an OBD 1. At home I just use the jumper/count the flashes method.
