PCM Part 1993

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a 1993 Ford Ranger that has conked out on me. The pcm has gone bad and I have not been able to find the correct part. I need some help!

This truck is a 4.0 liter manual 5-speed, rear wheel drive or 4 x 2, gas, and the vin search identifies it as a super cab (although I hardly would call two small seats in the back a super cab). We looked on the sticker under the hood and door and we did not find whether it was Federal or California emissions. I suspect it is Federal since the vehicle was constructed in St. Paul MN. Apparently the vehicle is too old to be supported by another data base which would tell me the emissions.

The part number on the PCM is F37F 12A650 TC although I have not seen the part number for myself since the truck has been sitting at the repair shop for over three months. Does this sound correct?

I ordered a part based upon the above part number which was remanufactured been it did not fit. Also, I was told whether it was a super cab did not matter but I think it may.

As a second subject I was told that if I disconnect the mass air sensor the truck would run. I wonder how well it will run?

The truck has been very good to me mechanically over the years, 280,000 miles, so it is such a shame that a piece of electronics has brought it down.

Thanks, a very frustrated Ranger owner.

Numbers break down like this
F37F 12A650 TC

12A650 generic Ford Computer part number

F37F, F = 1990's, 3 = '93, 7 = Ranger, F = engine accessories

TC are revisions

You would probably be fine with a Computer from a 1990-1994 Ranger with 4.0l and 5-speed(automatic won't work)
I don't think the 4x4, 4x2 part matters in '93, it had it's own module(behind one of the small rear seats), for 4x4 shifting

4x4 doesn't matter, auto would be OK in a pinch but the CEL light would be on, 90-93 will work, you have to be careful with 94, stuff started changing.

The plant it was assembled at will not determine Cali or Federal emissions. Look for an EGR valve and a cam sensor, if it has those it is Cali.

Check eBay for the part. Just punch the part number into the eBay search bar.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks Again

I think I still have a PCM from a 94 Ranger,it was a 2wd 5spd. truck.
Not sure if 94 would be the same, though.

Rock Auto has them available but only for a manual shift. Will that work?

Will this Work Ron? It's for a Manual Trans. though.
1993 pcm

Not correctly; solenoids on the auto trans are controlled by the computer.

You wouldn't have Overdrive and torque converter wouldn't lock up as fast so MPG drops
