i have a 93 ford ranger 4.0 4x4 5speed that i bought, the kid said the pcm was bad and he put a different one in the truck and it is the wrong one, how do i find out what pcm i need without having the original pcm for the truck?

I can't help you out with your original part number because I had to replace mine but if you're planning to buy a new one AutoZone does carry them and if memory serves me right it the Cardone for trucks with federal emission and manual transmission a about 115 bucks.
You can look them up on the AutoZone website

93 4x4 do you by chance know what the difference is in the PCMs because there are 3 different ones for a 5speed truck but I don't know which one I need

Just guessing but two of them are probably Federal vs California emissions. The third could be anything..

If the emissions, engine, and transmission matches it'll most likely work.
