The title says it all really..The ABS light would come on intermitantly but would go away if you re started the truck. Now the light is on and the engine idles rough and is somewhat reluctant to start, no CEL light. I have good spark and we have changed the timing belt. done all the basic tune up stuff..The rough idle and ABS light happened at exactly the same time so somehow I feel they are related..but I don't know how

Any ideas ?
thanks you.

I can't think of anything that the engine and the ABS system would have in common. Your ABS is an extremely simple system and it's trouble codes can be pulled so you can see what it's bitching about.

If the engine is rough only at idle, I guess I'd start looking for a vacuum leak.

Just an update..The EGR valve was the problem..we never looked at it as we had just changed it about a year ago...
had the ABS codes looked at..and there was none..
it seems that the abs/brakelight problem is the 3-pin switch that slides into the res on the master cylinder..unhook it and the red brake light goes out but the abs light stays on..remove the lvl sensor from the res and it still has the red and yellow lights,as soon as you unplug the switch the red light goes out...Seems also fords new and better idea is not to sell the switch..you have to buy the whole master cylinder or scavange it
