Hello, I have a 1992 Ranger 3.0 4x4 Auto with Manual T case and it is running really rough. It has a new coil, new plugs and wires, a new alternator, new cap and rotor and all injectors tested fine. Engine was rebuilt before I bought the truck and I do have paperwork for that. The truck has a really bad misfire/stumble at idle when warm and stalls after a drive sometimes and I have replaced all of the problems above trying to chase the problem and am out of ideas. Can anyone help me?

Have you pulled diagnostic codes?

No check engine light has been on, I know it works though because it lights up with key on.

There can still be codes with no check engine light.

Can you pull them the same way? I am used to the OBDII system. I am new to F-series from this time frame. I have had 70s and late 90s to early 2000s. I know where the port is on the truck I just didn't know it would hold stored codes without the light being on

Go to the link above, it shows you how to pull the codes.

Ok, absolutely zero codes. Checked timing again with spout out and base timing is at 27* btdc. Yikes!. I re-timed it to 10 *btdc and shut it off, plugged spout back in and started it, ran like crap again, turned it off and took spout out and it was back at 27, and I did tighten the dis bolt in case someone thought that may be a problem. What would cause base timing to change like that?

I have the timing issue solved and alternator light but I have a new problem, while driving it randomly shuts off and still no codes. The only way to get it started is to play with the coil connector wires and the wires going into the base of the distributor
