I can use any help I can get on this subject. You guys are very clever. The only question I know to ask is:: How much impact does the speed sensor have on transmission shifts for a 1992 A4LD transmission? I am aware of the speedometer on this truck being kinda wonky in the past years, more like on and off with the accuracy. It kinda wobbled some too. Are these things hard to replace? I read they can have 16 or 18 teeth in the gears? I'm just trying to keep this Ranger out of a junkyard somewhere. Get it back running properly. Thanks.

It would impact the 3-4 shift and the torque convertor clutch engagement. Fairly big impact. The speed sensor should be on the lefthand side of the transmission. If it's incorporated in the speed cable system, you should be able to take it apart and pull the assembly out and inspect the plastic gear for wear underneath the truck.
