I've had the truck for a few months, and the check engine light has been on since day 1. I just hooked it up to a scanner and these are the codes I got:

KOEO-
172
224
327

KOER-
224
998

The truck doesnt have any power uphill and a lot of times at highway speed. Im lucky to go 45mph on any uphill grade. I'm lucky to maintained 55-60mph on flat highway. It has worsened over the last few months. Hard starting. Sometimes after initial startup, it will idle really low or erratically, to the point where I think it's going to stall, but lately, it's just been stalling. Doesnt matter if its sat all night or just driven 5mins ago. After I start it up again it runs fine. New fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs, wires, battery and battery cables.

Also, I bought the truck from some hole in the wall shop. Previous owner took it in for transmission work, couldnt pay the bill, signed the title over and I found it on Craigslist. 2nd gear is sometimes difficult to shift into at low speeds and 4th ALWAYS grinds when I shift into it. Sometimes it will chatter and pop out of 4th right after I shift. Could this be clutch related? Driveshaft leaks at both ends. Some shop..

My vents dont work. Nothing blows out of them. The AC doesnt work (low priority right now) and neither does the heat. During the winter months I could feel it barely trickle out of the vents. If it helps, the slider that controls temperature will bounce back if I push it too far to the right.

Lastly, any picture tutorials on here for timing belt replacement?

Thanks so much.

172 - (R,M) Oxygen sensor not switching - system is or was lean - Single, Right or Rear HO2S - Fuel control

224 - (M) Failure in ignition coil primary circuit - Ignition Systems

327 - (O,R,M) EGR feedback signal is/was low - EVR or PFE

224 - (M) Failure in ignition coil primary circuit - Ignition Systems

998 - (R) Did not pass Key On Engine Off test yet (Get 111 in KOEO first)

These codes explain most of the issues you describe. Replace your 02 sensor and ignition control module. Not sure about the EGR, those sytems are a real pain to figure out problems...

As for the heat and a/c not blowing first check the fuse for the blower motor then replace the controls since you said they are acting up and if that still doesnt fix it replace the blower motor.

Oh, and take the throttle body and IAC off and clean the insides really well with carb cleaner for the idle issue.

And check the clutch master cylinder reservoir on the firewall above the brake master cylinder, its probably low on fluid. use dot 3 brake fluid to top it off. wouldn't hurt to bleed the clutch hydraulics either...

I had an EGR problem with my 93 a couple of years ago. I was unable to determine if the EGR Valve Position sensor was working properly. So I decided that a truck with 150,000 miles might have a bad EGR Valve. I replaced both the EGR valve and the Position sensor.

Guess what, no more Check Engine Light, it worked!
