I have a 92 Cavalier with a 3.1L V6.

Yesterday night I was driving and I had to stop for gas. After I got the gas I went to start my car and it started and then it shut off almost instantly. If i hit the gas and make the car idle it will do that fine as long as I have my foot on the gas. It runs on the freeway and at speed with no issue but as soon as I would stop it would shut off. Now today it is running better but the idle surges and drops when I come to a stop but it eventually settles out.

Side note also was that it didn't start this morning but I wiggled he battery cable a bit and it started fine but none of my accessories worked for the first minute or so but then they were fine. (I think this is unrelated from the idle issue)

What could this issue be?

Problem # 1.. Clean your iac and check for a vaccum leak.
Problem # 2.. Take your batt. terminals off and use a wire brush to clean them.
Side post batt. terminals= another one of chebbys worse ideas.

Well I pulled the iac and it was really dirty... Covered in carbon.... The end of it was really wiggly.... Should it be like that?

Nope. Clean it well with brake cleaner. Make sure the wires are secured in place.
