I have a 1990 ford ranger xlt i4 2.3l and I was wondering if it is possible to turbo it or if I would need to get forged pistons? Or if it would be easier just to swap engines with an 86 ford thunderbird i4 turbo. And what I would need to get depending on which way is cheaper and/or easier. Thanks, mike

easiest to swap in a turbo engine and make a couple mods while you are there, since the forged pistons are already in the turbo block... I did just that, the only physical mod you have to do to fit the turbo engine is modify the heater blower box and make a new exhaust setup. I modified things a bit and mounted the crank sensor from the old engine onto the new block so I could keep DIS which I prefer over the old TFI that's known to fail at bad times, relatively simple mod really. then there's the wiring modification to add in the VAM and boost controller (if you want to use the stock unit, works fine), use the stock wiring harness and modify where needed, keep the stock throttle body so it'll connect right up, also grab the stock IAC as I believe the newer ones have the diode built in while the old ones have the diode in the harness.
