I've been looking for a throttle cable and it seems that these are discontinued, any one have any advice as to what they have done to remedy a new one of these? I searched the forum but it seems all are 1994-up. I know the 1990 is a facelifted first gen from 1990-1992, correct me on anything if I'm wrong. Are all 2.9L throttle body cables the same no matter what year. I'm looking at a Lokar set up right now but unsure if that will work, Pioneer seems closer to OEM. Any direction would be helpful. Will keep searching, next is the Tech Library. Thanks Q

Any Ranger/Bronco II 2.9 I’ve ever viewed under the hood are all the same. So look for years starting in 86 thru what ever the last year of a 2.9 ranger (94 ?) Bronco IIs will be 86 thru 90. I threw one away last summer. I don’t know why. 🤦🏼‍♂️

AL4D? correct

Is there a difference for Manual

I’ve had both and I don’t recall any difference

If you had a 4.0 bracket and cable and someone that can weld you can use them on the 2.9 bracket. The mounting is different for the cable. I don't have that vehicle any more or i could take pictures. I used the stuff of a 4.0 off a 93 Explorer. Hope this helps.

Wonder if there is a write up on this and if the throttle cable for the 4.0 can be bought new? I have a welder, going to look into this a well. Q

Did a search , it appears the 4.0 cable is not available. You really won’t need the bracket just a piece of metal close to the size of the bracket bent into a “L” shape with a metric “18” hole drilled to push and lock it into place. Temporary hold it in place until you push the accelerator down and it opens the throttle body wide open and weld it in place on the 2.9 bracket. Hope this helps and you find a 4.0 cable.

Just a note. Some are advertising a 29 inch cable saying it fits all 2.9/2.3. It will not. Just pulled the cable off a 90 ranger 4 cylinder 5 speed parts truck. It’s actually 30 inches end to end. The bracket will also need modified to hook to the throttle body. After that it will be to short to plug into the firewall.

Thanks for that length info, I was wondering what the possible length would be. To all reading this when I first bought the truck I randomly searched for this OEM cable because mine is not operating smoothly. I did find an OEM one(says it was!!!!) on Ebay for $159.99, I would never pay that but damn thats a lot for 30" of cable!!! Reminds me of all the oxygen sensors I've replaced, it's not the sensor it's those 3-4 wires an an oem plug that you pay for. This cable is the same in my thought process in that your paying for both end that hook up not the cable. Q
