Well guys i started into a project. Its a 1990 2wd ranger that had a good 2.9 v6(if anyone needs this let me know) and it had a fm132 tranny that only had 4th gear. Well i got it all out and have since got alot of stuff for the swap. I have a 1986 Thunderbird motor that just has a aluminum intake on it. The intake is a square bore edelbrock performer 289. I have a spread bore carb and big 2 barrel. Not sure which im going to use yet. Lucky summit sells the adapter plats so i can use either on on my intake. I just recently bought a 4 speed transmission out of an early 80s mustang. The tranny i only spent 50 bucks on but it needs a bell housing and clutch assembly. So i figured i would have a little over 250 total on the transmission. I have the new fuel pressure regulator because i figured i would just retain the factory pump. I did buy the oil pump relocation kit from summit but i relied after i bought it that it was coming strait out not out the side like i needed so il either buy just that one piece or im going to see if i cant use 90degree fittings if i can get it to clear the steering box. Plan is to pull the seats and just put a set of black plastic buckets ordered from summit. The motor mounts i plan to use from the v6 and just make the flat steel plats to convert it. I think the plan so far is to use the stock tranny cross member and just make a bolt in adapter. The transmission is cable actuated so just make a small mount on the fire wall and them weld something to the existing clutch pedal. The truck was pretty rusty. I have since got the hood, front bumper, and driver side fender blasted and in primer. the whole truck will be white. Im painting everything white including inside trim pieces and grill and the front bumper which used to be chrome. Drive shaft im still working on. I might just figure out which cars drive shaft i can use from the junk yard, weld it onto the existing drive shaft and then have it balanced. I do have a set of 16 inch wheels with 32" mud tires on it at the moment. I think im going to try to get a set of smaller tires so i can lower the truck. im thinking just cut the spring in the front and swap the axle in the back to on top of the leaf spring and then make blocks if i need to. What do y'all think? Ill put some pictures up as soon as i figure out how to.

For the oil adaptor, your going to need to get the 90 degree one. Putting fittings on the one that goes straight out will hit your steering box.

Be careful with that transmission, those 4 speeds are pretty weak. Sounds like a SROD, really a 3 speed with OD.

How much harder is to swap in a 5.8 351m? I know there taller. im not worrying about height just clearance with steering box and headers on the frame rail

Can i not just cap off the return line going back to the tank and use a single fuel pressure regulator? But anyways ill tell you about the progress Ive made on my truck. I did end up finding a 351m/400. its a carb setup with an edelbrock performer 400 intake. Holley 650 double pumper. c6 trans with a shift kit and yoke attached to it. (i called a local shop and they quoted me 350$ for a completly brand new one piece drive shaft with new yokes on either end and u joints installed) But the whole truck is sanded. front driver side fender, front bumper, and hood are all in primer and wet sanded ready for paint. Bed is coming off at the moment. just have one bolt left that the nut is stripped out on. I just finished taking out the heater box and only have the inside cab portion to do. The Power steering is taken out and i got 2 barbed fittings to got into the gearbox so i can connect the two and have manual steering. Tomorrow i plan on sanding down the back half of the frame and pressure washing the engine bay. At this point i do not have an idea what im doing for headers yet. I do have a weld up long tube kit that i bought from summit a while back that i might layout and see if i cant get something pieced together yet Any thoughts so far?

I'm doing a 351w swap right now, and I have a weld up kit probably the same as yours. I believe some truck style headers will fit, but I think building the headers is the best route to go
