1990 4.0 to super coupe 3.8 super charged

right on man i see thanks for your help im new at the engine swaps and things so i appreciate your knowledge. My ranger is the dis 4.0 though and the 3.8 i have is like a 92 or 93 so my harness might work well if not i have the complete harness and ecu out of the coupe but another question is i have seen motor mount kits for swaping 302's in, would you say that would be a good way to go and if not what are your thoughts on that and the car is an auto so im pretty sure its the aod because the e4od came out with obd 2 im pretty sure but anyways i was just thinking of modifying the factory cross member i have now to fit the aod cause i have a a4ld [that i have had terrible luck with] if you compared the two trannys next to each other though do you how much bigger the aod is compared to the a4ld??

The E4OD was the 4-spd replacement for the C-6. They're good trans, but nowhere near as strong as what they replaced. Ford used them in the F150 up from about 87 to the late 90s when the superduties got the 4R100 and the half tons got the 4R70W or 4R75W.

My guess though is that the supercoupes came with AOD or 4R70W.

There's a forum in the V6 section specifically for 3.8/4.2 swaps. I'd look there.

And yes, 99.99% of the people here will agree with you about the A4LD. Fitting any full size tranny in a ranger usually requires some "massaging" of the trans tunnel or a body lift, and a different cross member and bastardized drive shaft. If it's a 4x4, you'll have to use the full-size T-case which will usually require notching the ranger fram to fit it. This also necessitates front driveshaft modifications as well.

I would just boost the 4L. The 4.0 has great internals and most guys see 200hp at the wheels of a 2wd with 5-6psi of boost.

yea but my 4.0 is weak and i already know my trrans is a piece of shit its blown up three time in the last two years i really dont want to push it plus the 3.8 is different and i have seen some impressive numbers out of those s/c 3.8 so im going to go for it see what happens!
