1989 ranger 2.9 l

I am having a problem starting my ranger. The starter engages but truck wont start then it goes to just a click then when I try it again the starter comes on and will not shut off when I take the key out. I had to take the battery cable off. I just put a new starter solenoid on and it worked fine. Then went to start it today and the same thing happened all over. Any one know what is wrong. thanks,

Return that solenoid and get one that works.

Thanks Jim i am going to try that today. I was thinking the new one could be faulty too.

Try to find a Motorcraft part. I had the same thing happen to me. Stay away from the Chinese junk.
