1989 Ford Bronco II rear hatch opening rubber "bumpers"?

no one seems to even list the rear hatch opening parts?
It's coming close to 32 years old. This when parts sourcing gets fun.

well i wish i could even find the parts on a parts explosion ? all the other doors are listed? just seems strange?

Do one of you fine mechanics know the size of Torx bit/wrench required to remove those striker bolts? Biggest I have is T40 and that's too small?

Here is a picture of my passenger side door striker. It doesn't appear to have a ever had the plastic bushing... Just saying, I know ever other ford I ever had, had them.

How can you tell it never had one?

The doors don't rattle and are aligned. If there was one I would expect to see some discoloration on the striker where it was. Just saying they don't normally run off. They were when the door pins wear.

don't those striker pins just unscrew? The original bushings are still available.

Yes they just unscrew, yes bushings are available.

The OP is talking about the rubber isolators that are on the hatch, and those as far as I know aren't available anywhere. I got a set from a pick a part that lasted about a month and disentegrated, so now the hatch rattles as it always has...don't care the whole vehicle rattles and squeaks anyhow so what's one more thing to rattle. These things are 30+ years old, so parts haven't been made for them for decades, there's no aftermarket for the Bronco 2....however, maybe look at a full size Bronco, maybe or a first generation Explorer. May share the same parts.

I went out and looked at my hatch this afternoon.

I have the isolators in question, still in good shape for now.

As far as the bushings on the striker pin, I added them with the 1/2" pex suggested. It made my hatch close up better as mentioned.

I tried to add them to the doors and it wedge my door shut to where it would open.

Just an observation. I left the doors alone, but added them to the hatch.

Still trying to figure what that L piece actually does. I would have to guide the tailgate side to side right? If I were desperate and needed them bad, I think I would get a block of nylon and a hacksaw and drill bit and make my own. Here's a place to buy the plastic. You can even get it already black. You will have to buy a 12 inch bar and then cut and shape the pieces you need.

I have no idea what those L brackets do, my 88 Bronco 2 doesn't have them, and my 84 Bronco 2 didn't either. Maybe that's why my hatch rattles so bad, maybe someone added them in hopes to keep the hatch from rattling, I have no idea. I don't think in my case its so much the hatch, but more of the stupid rear mounted tire carrier bouncing all over the place, but no other choice, there's hardly any cargo room as it is, throw a full size spare in the back and you have no cargo room. The typical SUV problems of the day LOL.

I believe they are "alignment" bumpers to limit sideways movement of the hatch. I've seen them on a number of different vehicle hatches.
