well in the process of replacing the ball joints on this turd i destroyed the spindel removing it. i looked at all the part stores unless i am retarted and it is listed under something esle. where the hell can i get a spindle at ???? thanks in advance

Same thing happened to me. I had to go to my local Ford Dealership to get new ones. I think they cost me about $200 bucks a piece. You can try a junk yard, but chances are you'll ruin the one you're trying to get off. I went all out and repaced both sides so I wouldn't have to go through the aggravation twice! Anyways, good luck! Let us know how things turned out.:icon_thumby:.

ouch that sucks i wonder why no one makes a replacement

becouse you took it off wrong...you need to have a block of wood between the bfh and spindal....you will ruin your arm when done...but it is cheeper than a $200 spindal

to the junk yard i will go with my BFH and some wood

My favorite method is to put a couple of junk manual hub spindle nuts on the spindle threads and beat them into the next century.

A block of wood works, but the nuts will transmit quite a lot more shock into the spindle, while still protecting the threads (and the rest of the spindle) from a direct hit.

I'm amazed by the number of times I see posts about ruined spindles. A couple of years or so ago someone posted a simple homemade puller for removing spindles that works very well. They even included pictures and directions on how to make it. I guess there are just too many fans of the bfh out there.

The only device I've seen for removing spindles is one OTC sells for the purpose, as an attachment to one of their slide hammers. It's moderately expensive, and so friggen' special that professional mechanics don't normally have one handy. Note that Dana 28 spindles aren't the same size as Dana 35 spindles, so you need TWO of these just to service Rangers.

So, what is this puller device? I haven't seen it, but there really isn't much to push against. Unless it's a BIG pilot bearing puller....

Honestly, if it costs more than $20, I'll buy a pair of NEW spindle nuts and beat the crap out of them. It works. And I can usually find them for free at a pull-yer-own (they really don't know how to charge for nuts). Though Dana 35 nuts are kinda hard to find.

Sometimes you have to hang up the BFH in Defeat!

I tried to beat my spindles off with a peice of wood. I finally hung up my hammer in disgust and broke out the air chisel. I managed to get one side off with that but had to result to drastic measures for the other side! Bring in the "MINI-GUN"! I give you all one guess as to which one that is!

I use to struggle with those. But now I use a sawed off 8# sledge and I can knock them loose in one whack usually. Hit the nuts, like MAKG said. The wood takes all the shock out of it defating the point, plus it's hard to give it a good christian swing when you aren't 100% you are going to hit the spindle dead on.

I've seen the puller at work and it does work. It's a giant slide hammer and all the force is going in the right direction.

Uhhh.. Actually it's a threaded tube with STEPPED DIAMETER THREADS, so ONE puller adapter works on the D28, D35 &D44 as well as the D60 spindles.

You thread the tool onto the spindle then thread the slide hammer into the other end and W*H*A*C*K ! the spindle is OFF. no fuss no muss no dammaged threads and if you are a big guy like me you RARELY have to smack it more than two or three times.

I actually have TWO OTC "Silver Slapper" slide hammers, one that I use with all the other various attachments I have and one that the spindle puller LIVES on.

BTW, the OTC spindle puller costs quite a bit, last I checked about $80
But the chinese one (Taiwan) that is sold at your local Shucks/Kragen/Checker/Advanced auto parts for about $30 works just as well and has the same three internal thread sizes.

EVERYONE with a 4x4 truck that they work on themselves should have one of these in addition to a spindle nut socket.

There is no real excuse to not have them.

As for the OTC slide hammer set? you should have one of those too, trust me you'll keep finding new uses for it.

BTW, my brother bought some offbrand slide hammer ("in addition to" not "instead of") his OTC silver Slapper, it has a 12lb weight on it and his spindle puller is actually WELDED to that slide hammer.

I've never seen him hit ANY spindle more than twice before the spindle AND the slide hammer are skidding across the shop floor like a runaway train.
