1989 2.9l vacuum connections

I have been searching for vacuum diagrams for this engine, and have only been able to find ones that are similar or incomplete.

The biggest question i have is what connects beneath the throttle body. There are two ports, one behind and one in front of the throttle plate.
 
There are only three connections on the bottom of the throttle body. The 1/2" port on the drivers side feeds air to the drivers side valve cover, the 1/2" port on the passenger side feeds air to the IAC, and the center port (1/4"?) connects to the vapor canister. Both 1/2" ports are in front of the throttle plate, and the center port is just behind the throttle plate. The port behind them in the bottom of the upper intake is for the PCV valve. I hope that helps.

I don't believe that the '89 is different from the '87 (pictured), other than the throttle body bore.

Hey great info, exactly what i was looking for.

Good news is im hooked up right, bad news is im still having an issue.

Im smoking right at take off after sitting at a stop light and right at takeoff from a stop after very hard engine breaking. I also get a little external leaking after rigorous drives. I was hoping the pcv system was hooked up wrong. But looks like its working fine.

I did head gaskets and valve stem seals and neither solved it. Engine is 30k after rebuild and has great compression and runs excellent otherwise.

Im stumped.
 
White smoke?
Black smoke?
Blue smoke?
 
You sure it aint oil leaking out the valve covers and smoking off the exhaust?

Its a pretty common thing.
 
Check compression.

Sounds like rings.

Personally if its running good id just run it.

Valve guides/seals?
Could be. But those usually only smoke on a cold start once the oils dripped down ontop of the piston
 
Yea, thats what i would normally guess but compression is good and runs great. Ive just been runnin it but its eating me. I gotta know! Valve guides and seals were new with the head and i replaced the seals again already with good felpro set.
 
Smoke during cold starts aren't the only symptom of bad valve guide(s) or seal(s). Do a quick google search on "valve guide symptoms".
I'd check the plugs for burnt oil. It's a fairly new engine, so maybe it's just one cylinder causing the issue. There's not too many ways you can get oil in the combustion chamber. Pretty much rings, valve stems or guides, and blow-by.

They'll be burnt oil on the plugs regardless since its getting into the combustion chamber.

Pull the plugs though regardless, sometimes black fuel smoke can look pretty oil-ish at times.

Ok ill check plugs. Heads were brand new castings. New seals twice, new valves, new guides. All new.
 
New doesnt always mean trouble free....lol.
