hey guys im new here but not a noob lol..

i recently got this 89 ranger 2.3l 5sp and its great but the other day it scared me because now the engine light blinks when you hit high rpm's. i found out that it needed some oil and added some. the problem was gone, but then a day later it came back. the oil level is fine now and it still keeps on blinking at high rpms and the occasional decelaration .btw i changed the plugs, wires, eng oil and filter, fuel filter, pcv, and cleaned the tb and iac. any suggestions?

Go to Autozone/Advance/Pepboys and have them pull the codes. That will give the best starting point, and its free.

check your o2 sensor.. since you have issues at the upper RPM, the o2 may not be trimming the fuel like it should

blinking CEL means misfire usually. the code might tell you what cylinder/s. I'd check the coils.

the o2 sensor is new and today i replaced the wires since i had only replaced the plugs, but i still get the same results. the other day, the light came off for a while then it came back, its probably an intermittent problem i dont know:dntknw:

i got another question. the egr only does work at idle and cruising rpms right?
today while the truck was idling, i took off the egr vaccum hose and the electrical connection and the idle remained the same. is there a simple way to test if my egr valve or my egr solenoid is messed up?
thanks.

put a peice of vaccum hose to the egr valve and suck. the trucks rpm will change noticibly, might even die. why are you inspecting the egr system? did you ever figure out what the code was?

im going to go to autozone tomorow to see if they can scan it.

but i like to check off all the options on my head, plus i might clean the egr as a regular maintenance thing..
