Kind of. "Easily" is not the word I would use for any engine swap.
The early engines (83-85?) were carbureted, and used the low-pressure fuel pump in the tank. When they switched to fuel injected engines, they added an in-line high-pressure booster pump.
If you wanted to put a carbureted engine in your 88, you would eliminate that booster pump and some of the plumbing related to the fuel pressure regulator, for starters.
If you want further details, you're going to have to give us more information, such as:
What engine do you have in the truck now?
What engine do you intend to install?
Why do you want to install a carbureted engine?
What do you plan to do with your truck?
Your initial question seems awfully vague and uninformed.
I was thinking about buying a ranger that has a bad fuel injected engine in it but comes with a good carbureted one. I didn't know if it would be better to just rebuild the bad one or if it would work to switch them.
Carbs require tuning often and get marginal MPG compared to fuel injection.
If it was a Cross-over year carb, when "they" were using computers to operate carb and used an O2 sensor, they can be more trouble than the fuel injection system, and you would need to find an older computer and wiring for that type of system.
So alot depends on what model of engine and what year of engine
If it's the same size engine, then yes; provided the problem is in the block or other unchanged parts. If the problem is in the FI system or any parts that support it, then you'll just be swapping the problem onto the good block.
Ok. You have a carbed 2.3 that's supposed to be good. And a FI 2.3 that is bad.
Now you need to know what's bad about the FI one. If it's block/heads swap away and drive it FI. If it's wiring/ECU, try to find a decent 2.3 FI replacement for it.
