I've spent quite a bit of time searching this forum to see if I could find the location of the 4x4 module on the '88 ranger. I saw one post here where a guy said he found it in the dash board. It is not under or behind the seat or behind the passenger kick panel. The guy that said he found it, said there were four easy screws to remove to get to the module. I have asked that poster to be more specific about where the module is located, but no response and I need to get the module diagnosed as my 4x4 isn't engaging (all the time). Does someone have a 1988 ranger super cab that has worked on this module and can advise where it is located and how to get to it? Appreciate any help.

I had a 88 parts xcab. I believe its behind the panel, drivers side, behind the seat under the side window.

Thanks, but no cigar. It's supposed to be in the dash on an '88. I need someone who actually removed and serviced it on an '88.

I just did a quick search and the first thread I found seems to confirm placement behind the rear jump-seat drivers side.

I'd be looking at your 4x4 control module located behind the driver's side rear jump seat.

I'll check a few more and post up if I find anything different.

Another; http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/4wd_control_module.html

And another; 4x4junkie says it's in dash and adsm08 says behind the jumpseat. My theory, it may be a split year for placement.

Again, these guys don't own an '88. I found all the threads you are finding. No clear direction from anyone who serviced the 4x4 module on a 1988...

PS, nice looking truck in your "truck show" link!

I can tell you that MY '88 had the 4x4 module in the dash. I removed it from there when I switched to the manual transfer case.

Look at the very top of the dash, where the speakers are. There is a plate there on the passenger side just to the middle from the passenger side front speaker. The module is under that plate.

my88 bronco 2 is there also.

Thanks! This helps!
