I recently posted about my ranger. I have oil coming out of the dipstick and asked if it could be a PCV or a Broken ring. I changed the PCV and still have some blowby. I could not find my compression tester adapter for the plugs. So I pulled each one and checked them. They were all clean and had no signs of oil on them. Wouldnt a broken compression ring cause at least some oil on them? What size engine could I swap this one for and how hard would it be?

not necessarilly, blow by is caused by bad rings allowing combustion compression to "blow by" the ring into the crankcase thus blowing out the crankcase. it shouldnt pull oil into the cylinder thus contaminating the plug, but it may. just saying, it is not an exact science.

as for swaps, i dont remember if you listed which motor you have... is it a 2.0 or a 2.3? i have an 88 which came with a 2.0 that i just got done swaping a 2.3 into, and the difference was astounding between a bad running 2.0 and a very good running 2.3. if you dont know, the 2.0's are feedback carb'd and the 2.3's are EFI.
