Hey guys, I'm new to the site and I was wondering what I would need to do a trans swap on a 1988 Ford Bronco II. It has an Automatic in it now and personally I like the manuals better. I was wondering if any of you guys tried the same thing.

Thanks for looking and helping!

Tony

many will say swap 4.0 clutch. would be good but i dont see a point if not offroading or bigger tires. You will find everyone says go for m5od. but fm146 will work as well.

Heres my list of stuff i bought and prices. All bought through advance.

-m5od manual trans ($80 off craigslist)
-88 clutch/brake pedal assembly (paid $22 at junkyard)
-89 slave($65.99), clutch lines(54.99), master cylinder(55.99)
-fluid reservoir($5 at junkyard)
-manual flywheel ($59.99)
-Optional new shifter bushings ($26.50 shipped[allstategear.com])
-optional but recommended rear main seal ($13.59)
-clutch kit ($99.99)
- manual trans computer ($8 at junkyard)
-5 quarts ATF- royal purple ($65 but got half off with coupon)
- orange high temp silicone ($5.99)

Probably forgettting some things

Im almost done finsihing my a4ld to m5od. just have to install rear shaft at axle end. Just make sure you have time and a place to do it.

did you need the manual trans computer i just started my swap and no one told me about that it no big deal if i do i got a whole truck gave to me free so i got one but just wanted to know if i needed it thanks

im not sure yet haven't started it yet. still need to install clutch line, reinstall starter and do a little wire splicing. I just got it because everyone said to. im going to try and use the auto comp. just to see if it works.

Thanks for the information guys, it is greatly appreciated! i actually have another problem and i was wondering if any of you guys here knew how to fix it? Okay so the drivers side front wheel will not spin at all, even with the truck in drive. BUT it frees up in revers and will spin as normal. Is this something to do with a frozen piston in the caliper or should I start my search in the front axle? It is a push button 4x4 and both the Low Range and the 4x4 options are lit up and will not turn off. I need help.

Thanks, Tony

Jack it up and take the wheel off and take the Brake caliper off.If it still does the same thing take the bearing apart and check for problems.

I'm not exactly sure what the difference is in the ranger computer. But in the mustang world everyone prefers the automatic computer.. something about the timing curve .o
