1988 BII Build

Did you check the energy suspension chart I posted a link to? They might have bushing that will fit that track bar.

yeah i did. and actually, when you go to autozone.com to search for it, one comes up on the search list. funny thing is, it's actually cheaper than a factory style bushing. a little worried about using one though. i used a piece of the leftover 2" DOM that you sent me for the front arms, but it's only about an inch wide and i dont know how thick the bushing will be.

i need to order ball joints as well, so i think i'm gonna just order one from rock auto and see what happens.

For the RR, TNT, and Merc I used old stock Jeep TB and just cut one end off welded DOM to the TB and then stuck a bung and heim to make it adjustable. Works great! I have piles of the Jeep TB cause when I do YJ 8.8 swaps I pull there old TB and same with TJ 8.8 swaps they need an adjustable so I keep there old one to cut up.

i thought that's what you did. i looked into doing the same thing, but it looked like the bend that's in it was going to cause clearance issues for me. plus, when i got the tube from ECGS it came with DOM for the track bar as well.

just an FYI for anyone, they'll ship the DOM for making you're own steering setups if you have a hard time finding it where you live.

The rear Wrangler TB are straight with only a small bend at the end so I just cut the bend off. I found the TJ ones work the best. I could have sent you one.

oh i gotcha, oh well. i guess i'll have to remember that if i ever do this again lol

just ordered more heims/misalignments/weld-in bungs from ballistic, hopefully it will get here this week. gonna new BJ's and track bar bushing from autozone after work. rock auto was only about $5 cheaper than AZ. plus, i'll have a lifetime warranty on them and i can take them back when they fail

here's my steering setup idea, this is plumcrazy's truck

any reason of welding the drag link to the tie rod instead of taking it over to the knuckle like currie or rusty does?

the only reason i can figure is that it keeps the DL and the track bar closer to the same length

There's gotta be a reason of each method. Just curious as to why you chose that method

i chose it for a few reasons. i think it'll be a little stronger. it lets me put the tie rod on top of the knuckle. and like i said, it should make the track bar and DL closer to the same length/angle. but what do i know, this is my first SAS lol we'll see what happens as i go.

go my BJ's from autozone and ordered the track bar bushing. had to order the bushing, but it'll be here on wednesday. my ballistic order has already shipped as well, so i should get it before the weekend.

all i did tonight was get the pass knuckle on. what a pain in the ass, even with a BJ press

working on the frame mount for the track bar tomorrow after work.

started on the frame mount for the track bar. started late, so i was welding in the dark pretty much, that's why the welds look like shit in some places.

gonna tack it to the frame tomorrow and get my track bar where i want it. then i'll add more gussets up at the top.

looks like the DL and TB should match up pretty close

worked til late again tonight, so the pics are dark, but you can kinda get the idea

i rebuilt the axle mount for the track bar, the new energy susp. bushing wouldnt fit in the 2x2 tube.

then cut down the TB so it was easier to work with. still need to trim an inch or two off. i'm gonna have issues with the cross member, so i'll either need to move the TB frame mount or cut up the cross member. you can sorta tell in the pics, but they're dark.

the steering angles also look like they're gonna match up pretty close though, so that's good. my heims should be here tomorrow or friday, so i'll be able to figure out more this weekend when i set up the steering links

my roomate (wife) just called, my heims/misalignments/adapters got there today. i was starting to worry that i was gonna get screwed over by ballistic after i've been defending them all this time. lol. so it looks like i should be able to get the steering links done tomorrow. goal is to have it sitting on the front tires by sunday night.

i also decided i'm gonna paint the tie rod, DL, coils, and track bar a nice auburn orange once i get everything set up and final welded. and no 4.0, i dont mean that nasty, dirty vol orange LOL
