i just noticed you said that you had the one from harbor freight. what thickness is the plate. they dont say on their website, it looked like it was about 1/8" maybe. the 3 reviews were good.

did a little bit to the tire carrier tonight

first i cut off the bolt head

used the left over DOM and sleeved the bolt

set it up as plum as i could and tacked it in

tested it out before i did the final welds. i didnt wanna weld upside down, so i'm gonna take it off the truck to do the undersides. it works much better now, it'll be even better once i get some grease in it too.

i'm selling my tube bumper, so i took that off tonight too. need to get my creative juices flowing so i can design my new one.

laid out my winch plate too.....it's gonna be one stout little mofo

hopefully i can get some stuff done this weekend, but the wife is trying to make other plans.......

cut out my winch plate, not cutting off that last little part til i see how it fits. still not sure how i'm going to mount it.

got my brake hoses mounted too, i was going to tap the spring perch so i could just bolt them on, but my taps suck ass. so i just took my bolts and welded the head to the perch and put a nut on that, works great. the factory brake line wont fit though, too long.....so now i gotta buy a new one. then i can bleed the brakes and get it moved out.

then i made the tire mount for my tire carrier....cut up the factory mount so i didnt have to buy a new one.

put a piece of 1/4" plate behind it and welded it up

just need to figure out how high i wanna mount the tire

just ordered my latch. apparently, this is what all the jeep guys use on their custom tire carriers. says it'll hold 2000 lbs. i shouldnt get anywhere close to that so it should work great.

got it off amazon for $8.99 along with a book i've been wanting for a while, so i didnt have to pay for shipping.

yeah, they ain't that great... it'll work but they don't usually seem to hold very tight. best one i've found so far is the one shown here

if it doesnt work i'll just make my own version of what A to Z fab sells, but for $9 i'll try it

at least those will hold tight... but would get annoying to unscrew it everytime.

yeah it would be annoying to unscrew, but i dont DD this thing, so i wouldnt need to open it that much.

i also found this when i did a google image search on "tire carrier latches"....i could probably fab that up for less than $5 with scrap i have in the garage, just need a spring

got the tire carrier part way tacked together tonight. notice the lovely pollen that's floating around.

the part that holds the tire sticks out so far i cant close the garage door, i think i may cut it down some or recess it into the vertical piece of 2"x3" tube

i like it, the slanted pieces are 2x2x1/8" angled bar btw
