1988 BII Build

reading that whole last page i was like..... does he not know you can buy those bearing sets.. OR just use a trailer axle bearing setup.

yeah brinker pointed one out a few pages back, but it was ~$140. i just figured they were all too expensive so i didnt look anywhere else. plus, i was trying to do it on the cheap with stuff i already had. i'm in about $9 so far.

Yea trailer spindle's definitely the way to go that way there's no sagging. Glad you found a cheaper one. You cant beat that price. Now order it and get it built!

i'm gonna try sleeving the bushing first. then if that doesnt work, i'll redneck engineer my own trailer bearing. i think i could do it less than what the kit costs.

sleeving didnt work too well. it still sags and it's noisy as hell.

guess i'll look into using a trailer spindle, but i dont think it's gonna work since my bumper is angled on the edges. i do have one other idea using the bushings, i'll post it up in a bit

been looking around at trailer spindles, i think i can make my own kit that would work just as well as the A to Z kit. i just need to find everything i need:

found some stuff on northern tool's website:

$12.99 for the spindle, rated for 1250 lbs (i wont get anywhere near that)

if you look at the A to Z kit, i think it's the exact same spindle

$15 for the bearing kit

but then i still need the metal cylinder to go over the bearings. but i'm only at about $28. figure it would cost $60 to get it to my door, if i can find the cylinder for less, i'll go that route.

I have a simple idea. Get a 6" 3/4" bolt, 4" of .250" wall, 1.250 dom and a few washers and a few nuts, grade 8.

Drill a 3/4" hole in the bumper where you want the pivot at, run the bolt up thru, put a couple washers on, slide the dom over, couple more washers, then double nut it loose enough so it still swings. Maybe add a grease zirk.

For what it is, this should be more than enough and pretty cheap to do. My .02 cents.

Too bad you dont live close to PA 88_Eddie I have all that stuff in stock at my shop.

not a bad idea. the hitch in that plan (and me using the trailer spindle above) is getting the 1.250 DOM. it's hard to find any small amounts of that around here.

i def think that would work though.

what? the spindle, bearings etc? we have a couple northern tool stores in raleigh. i need to go over there one day and see what i can find.

and really, what i need to do is quit fooling around with this tire carrier and get all the small stuff done so it can actually be driven. i'm gonna keep looking around and researching and see what i can come up with.

Let me see what I have, maybe I can hook you up.

I have a bunch of small chunks of 1.5", 1/4 wall, I will send you a 6" peice, just pay shipping and it is yours. Then get a 1" bolt and you are good to go.

well, it's worth a shot. i'll have to do some digging to find a 1" bolt, i dont think lowes or home depot carries them. but it wont hurt to try.

just pm me an amount whenever you get one and i'll send you the $$$. i should still have your email in my paypal account. thanks a lot man

Spindles, bearing kits, tubing, etc. I run the parts department for a trailer and suspension shop in my area.
