1988 BII Build

Dont forget to put anti-seize compound on the new bolts, this same thing happened to my dad when we went to put a newer 2.8 in his truck and had to replace the exhaust manifold bolts, only the driver side had bolts break off, 3 of them, and used a MAPP gas torch to get them out. One we couldn't so we welded a peice of all-thread to the bolt stud we couldnt get out and made it work.

got even more little pieces cleaned and painted today. also put the motor mounts back on.

i also screwed around with one of my wheels. i really like the stock BII wheels and i'm gonna keep them as long as i can. i have an extra wheel laying around, so if it turns out i dont like them painted, i'll just stick the other back on.

Did you have to cut your rims to ge them to shine??

I had to cut mine on my BII, I dont know what ford put on them but I spent 4.5 hours on one wheel, till I got pissed and just cut and polished it then.

Robert

also nice work on the engine, but it's just me, I would have painted the heads with high heat silver or aluminum.. but that is just me.

thanks man, i still may repaint the heads, i just ran out of the high heat gloss black engine paint i had and i havent done the other one yet.

as for the wheels, i just used a wire wheel that attaches to a drill and used that. the dirt/grime/nastiness came right off - took maybe 5 minutes. spent wayyyyy longer taping off everything to paint the black.

ok, thanks, I used a buffing/cutting wheel on one of wheels after 4.5 hours of useing mothers and two of the red balls, when I drove 18wheelers, I could polish out the 6 rims on my truck in a little over an hour, and they where 24.5s.

I was thinking that a silver head would brake up the all black block and also make it look like you have aluminum heads

Robert

next time i post pics, i'll post one of the drill and wire wheel i used. i agree with you on the silver heads

things lookin really good

thanks man

went down to grandma's for Easter this weekend. she works at advance auto parts as a part time parts deliver and gets 20% off on parts. (<-----thats probably a record for the number of times someone has said 'parts' in one sentence) so we went into town and picked up my head gaskets and head bolts from her store.

advance is expensive though, even with her discount it was only about $3 cheaper than autozone. the gaskets and bolts are felpro tho, i think the stuff at autozone was duralast.

here are what the headbolts look like. the old bolts had a socket head (dont know what else to call it) on them, these use a big torx head. anyone use these? i dont wanna strip out the heads of the bolts while i'm trying to torque them down.

i'm lookin for the best deal on headers now, hopefully i'll be gettin those next and then all i need is my muffler and figure out if my heads are cracked or not, oh and then i gotta finish removing the exhaust manifold bolts out of the heads.

those new bolts have a t55 torx head. they work great dont worry about stripping them theyre exactly what i used and they seem to be of pretty high quality. just make sure to use a good driver like a lisle or snap on or something cause the cheap ones break all the time.

damn it has been a while.......i've been saving money to get my headers and i finally just ordered them, should be in next week sometime. i just have to get the heads pressure tested to make sure they're still good between now and then and i'll be ready to put this thing back together......then i can finally lift it.

i read that on a 2.9 that would sound like poop. plus, the driveshaft, frame rail and starter are in the way on the drivers side

please tell me you are clear coating everything you paint. if you dont in a year or two the paint will fade and crack and look horrible. in the long run it will look worse than if you had never done anything.

oh yeah, as soon as i get it bolt together, i'm gonna clear coat everything, put it back in the b2 and then start reassembling the other stuff (alternator, a/c, steering, etc.)
