Can the 88 be made to run with just one in-tank pump, or does it need both to run? would like to do away with frame mounted pump if possible.

You need them both the in tank pump is low pressure meaning it alone will not have enugh pressure to the injectors.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. Just picked up an 88 that hasn't run since 2000 and both fuel pumps are out in it.

I would think that you could use a pump/sending unit from an '89 B2 (which is a high pressure pump) and delete the frame rail pump on yours. I have an '87 and a '90 B2, and they both appear identical at the tank end.......

dont forget youd have to patdch the line on the rail or pickup different fuel lines
and check ur inertia switch the tech section has an article about it

Thanks for the replies, ended up replacing both pumps today and it fired right up.
Parts store didn't have the frame mounted fuel filter so have to order one.
