I got a 1988 4x4 that my warm weather plans are to solve frontend problems
My question is: Are the needle bearings in the front spindle floating or are they caged
needle bearings. I know the 4x4's in the 70's were floating but I have't been in a front
end since. Been a while.

You talking backside of the spindle for the axle shaft?

They should be caged (I know D35 ones are anyway, the D28 is probably the same, just smaller).

Yes the front axle shaft
Sorry I didn't mention it's a D35

How do I start a forum to ask a question about a project?

Find the appropriate forum thread and start a new topic, kinda like you did here. :icon_idea:

Thank you Frye82.

I can't really find a thread that speaks to my issue.

So.

I am trying to figure out how to start a new one because I don't want to just barge in on a wrong thread [which I admit I am doing now, but only because I am hoping to figure out how to do it right.]

Is there a "New Thread Button" or something like that?

Sincerely
Roadbird

Upper-left of every forum here: "New Thread" button.
