1988 2.3 distributor swap??? HELP

if the guts in my 1988 2.3 distributer are bad can i swap the guts out of a extra 2.9 distributer I have?

like the hall effect thingey(tan) or the pick up? i have replaced every electronic thing i can think up and my truck still ant runing good

the idel races up and down(surging from 2000rpm-400 almost staling out)and sputers and bucks trying to drive under 3000rpm. but when i floor the gas it clears up and pulls hard i have replaces ICM ,TPS,IAC,MAP, FUEL filter. today im guna check fuel preshure and replace the regulator THE ONLY THING LEFT FOR ME TO TRY IS THE stuff inside the distributor. wat els could it be?

ok i tryed swaping the guts bettwen the 88 2.3 and 88 2.9
dizzey and i can say that thay are the same and it worked.

Well, actually...that's good to know...I searched around for replacement parts for my 2.0 and ended up having to buy a new stator...and having it rebuilt cost me $100...but I wasn't sure and couldn't take a chance...
