I drove the truck 100 miles to see my father on the anniversary of his death since it was his truck and thought it would be nice.

I had already been adding a quart of oil once a month but never checked into the problem. The coolant was losing a little too but I thought that was from the head gaskets that I did in 1999 with the help the The Ranger Station. When when I discovered the coolant was actually leaking out of a loose hose clamp at the water pump I thought I could just drive it all the way out to see my father!

But then when I got there, I noticed the oil pressure light came on and I pulled into the gas station for some help. There was oil dripping from the fan shroud and when the mechanic got under there with a flash light he determined it to be a leaking oil pressure sender. He said there was two on this truck. I left it there and took the Metrolink back home.

Is he telling the truth about there being two oil pressure senders on the 1987 Ranger XLT 2.9L?

I'll be leaving shortly to get back out there on the Metrolink.

Do you have a after market set of guages too? I foyu do the it might be possible.

are they on the same port? IF seperate ports...the other one maybe a oil level sensor, on the side of the oil pan.

IF ono the same port there is an extention coming out of the block that may appear to be another.

Oil pressure sending units are not very expensive and do have a tendencey to go bad.
they can be a bit of bugger to get to and get out .

Fixed

Well, I took the Metrolink back and the man at Riverside Shell was able to replace the sender and do an oil change for $80. It sure beats a blown engine.

So, I drove it home but when I was checking out that anti-freeze leak and tightened the hose clamp on the heater hose, I never rerouted it and it rubbed up against the A/C belt which sliced a hole in it. I never had it hooked up to the heater core and just looped it back into the water pump. So, now I'll hook up the other hose that I took off when I first took the heater core out of service.

Maybe some day I'll get a new heater core, but it never gets too cold in So. CA.

Heater Core

I decided to fix the heater core and ordered a new one from some place called partstrain. Hopefully everything will be okay. The total was $37 after shipping, handling & tax. :idiot:

Glad to see everything has work out...seems like you didn't get bit too bad with sending unit deal. Sorry for the poor spelling on the initail reply, mustof been in a hurry.
