1987 ranger help please

I don't think that it would rev high if it had a vacuum leak. You'd think it would run ruff.

Well, if it has a vaccum leak, then it'd be sucking in more air than it should, and it's going to rev a little higher, depending on the size of said vaccum leak.

TFI is the gray box on the side of the distributor. It functions sort of like a translator between the pickup in the distributor and the computer itself.

You wouldn't happen to know what color your reference voltage wire is on your TPS sensor, would you?

I wish I had a specific diagram for an '87, but on a generic one, ironically it looks like (note the word LOOKS :)) there's is a reference voltage (5 volt constant) from the computer that runs to the MAP, TPS, and an EGR component. Sounds like you might have a wiring problem...

i think that thos might be old codes. i cleared them and i will scan it again 2 morw and see waht i get than. i got a video clip of it doing this but i dont know how to put it on here

I just reread the post and realized that you unhooked a bunch of sensors, LOL, that is probably why you're throwing so many different codes from CM. What is left of the EGR system?

its all there but the pipe has been pluged, the vacuum solnoid i unpluged the power to it.

ok I think I got it. when I start it in gear it revs up like that. but if it is in neutral I don’t do it. I believe this is what is making it do it

ok it is the Nuetral Safty Switch. i dont have a clue why it is making it do this. but i took the shifter boot off and unpluged it and it makes the engin rev everytime i start it.
