I just bought a 1987 ranger with 124k on it......2.3 liter 4 speed with over drive. Very nice body with camper shell and I didn't see any rust! dash has seen better days...but 124 k 2 owner

Ok last time it ran.......4 years ago..........guy went out to start it to go to work........said it high idle then died. tried it 3 more times same thing.........he just jumped in another rig and left it sitting under a tree. The question is........what do I start with? to trouble shoot????

I know a new batter, probably 10 gallon of gas dumped in it.......and a couple bottles of seafoam would be a good start.....but what would make it high idle and die out.....it is relatives truck so I know the story is right.

fuel filter?

I own ford diesels and am on a farm so I can explore no problem
going to trailer home maybe this week.........is 2 hours away.

HELP HELP HELP

Re-fresh the fuel system. It has an intank pump and filter. This will need to be replaced as the entire fuel system has probably varnished up after sitting so long. The main pump along the frame rail may also need replacing.

Injectors may need cleaning. All of this may cure the original problem.

New plugs and wires, oil/filter, and coolant change. While you have the plugs out, squirt a tablespoon of oil into the cylinders.

It will probably need a new timing belt and idler pulley. This could also be the original problem as it may have jumped timing.

The brakes may also need refurbing. shady
