I have an 86 2.9L. The truck mysteriously would not crank yesterday. After pulling the steering column covers, I noticed the plastic part of the ignition switch was about to fall out of the rest of it.
My question is, how do you secure the new ignition switch to the steering column after removing the rivets holding it in?
To anyone who has dealt with this, I would greatly appreciate a suggestion on how they installed theirs. Thank you so much!

Has anyone had to replace that switch yet?
PLEASE respond if you have. I need to get this thing running. Thanks again.

Well, I will post the answer since no one was kind enough to share their knowledge ;)
Those things that appear to be rivets holding the ignition switch in are actually bolts with round heads. A pair of vise grips on the bolt's flange makes quick work of them.
Hope this helps someone in the future!!

Those are special torque sensing bolts. When the bolts are tightened the right amount at the factory they heads round off. You can buy those same bolts at the dealership

and was that supposed to be an anti-theft system???

Thats part of it from when I was told. Once you pull that box, push the switch inside to start and your gone
