runs fine when cold , after it warms up engine sputter, really black exhaust pipe, stalls sometimes, has fresh tune up
Please help dont want to get stranded some where

do you have any codes

Black smoke = too much fuel.

Does it fire up after "cooling down"? If so it could be the TFI. Though, the black smoke makes me think the fuel pressure regulator is bad. Do you have a gauge to check fuel PSI?

Define your idea of a tune up 1st. ( you never know )

Try disconnecting the O2 sensor.

I have the exact same issue with my '87 Ranger. After some research it has been discovered that Ford had setteled a class action that the TFI moduel is defective. If you like refer to The Center for Auto Safety (web site). They have the details for "Ford TFI Module National Class Settlement". So I am say'n that I agree with "jhammel85" that it is more than likely the TFI.

1986 b2 2.9 liter

Fresh tune up that i did was, dist cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, air filter,
starts great, but when warm has a noticeable miss and REALLY BAD FUEL MILEAGE, ENGINE SPUTTERS, MISSES, BLACK EXHAUST PIPE AND BLACK CRAP ON MY DRIVEWAY.
IDLES FINE AND REVS FINE WHEN COLD
PLEASE HELPPPPPPPPPP. GETTING ABOUT 9-12 MPG

1) Did it act like this (black smoke etc.) BEFORE your tune-up, or just after?
2) The "noticeable miss" suggests a firing problem on one or more cylinders. Have you rechecked your wires (right plugs?) and all tight on both ends?
3) If you haven't yet, take two minutes and go underneath and disconnect the O2 sensor.
My '87 BII ran crappy for YEARS (sputtering, dark exhaust, 8 mpg), and I can't remember how many freaking parts I replaced before I finally disconnected the O2 sensor. Instant end of problem.
